Good evening everyone.
It’s 7:32pm and I’m coming to you live from the FW kitchen table, eating a roast chicken!
Fuck, that almost looks a bit pink, doesn’t it? On second glance… yep, that’s pink. Bit of a salmonella vibe.
If I do come down with salmonella, fair play. Because tonight isn’t about roast chicken.
Tonight is about Peking Duk.
Peking Duk is a long-time favourite of FROOMESWORLD. Together Reuben Styles and Adam Hyde are a verifiable banger factory. Their discography reads like a drug deal gone wrong: Stranger, Fake Magic, High, Take Me Over, Fire, Wasted.
Their live shows require no jungle juice to enjoy. See them on the bill of any music festival and you know you’re in for a juicy, sweaty treat. They give it their all!
I really am so excited to share this newsletter. It’s why I took the chicken out of the oven early and gave myself salmonella. I just simply couldn’t wait.
So grab yourself a pancake, a slither of cucumber, some hoisin, sit down and enjoy.
These are Peking Duk’s TOP HAT TIPS.
WHO
F: Are you?
PD: A micro-blend of cryptocurrencies personified into a duo named Peking Duk.
PEKING DUCK
F: Best place to find it (the food)?
PD: Believe it or not, the best place is peking. They call it Beijing now.
CANBERRA
F: What is your fave restaurant in Canberra?
PD: The best restaurant in Canberra is called Kingsley’s. Unbelievable chicken, awesome chips.
BAR
F: You guys have a bar in Melbourne, is that right? When did you start that/is it still there? It’s called ‘Talk To Me’ – how did you come up with this name?
PD: In answer to your first question, yes. It opened in 2018 and we think it’s still there. We were inspired by the “Mare of Melbourne” himself, Benson, who has only ever answered the phone with those three words.
CHICKEN
F: When I first interviewed you, it was at a Nando’s party 2016. I was doing vox pops and had to ask people if they prefer chicken or sex. To be fair I can’t remember what you answered then, but what is it today?
PD: Porque no los dos?
FROOMY NOTE: Real footage. This went on for 20 seconds.
MELBOURNE
F: Best activity to do?
PD: Chicken and sex.
F: Fucked.
AUSTRALIAN
F: And now speaking of Australians, do u have a favourite?
PD: The Mare of Melbourne itself, Benson.
COOKING AT HOME
F: Please both share your signature dish. Link to recipe if one exists.
R: Onion Bhaji. Order it from your fav Indian restaurant, heat up in the oven:
A: I like oats. Spend enough time mastering these and you’ll never work a day in your life.
MUSIC
F: Are you guys gonna keep putting music out? Is it annoying when people ask that?
PD: It’s an unusually common question. ‘Chemicals’ is a song, which is out. It only just fucking came out. Great times. Thanks for noticing.
SHIRTS OFF
F: Adam, Is taking your shirt off a requisite for a Peking Duk performance?
A: At this point, define requisite. The answer is yes.
F: Yeah vibe. I see have a new music project, Keli Holiday. What is it?
A: Imagine Ned Kelly on a holiday. Pretty fun stuff huh? Riveting even. Come to The Lansdowne on the 18th and find out what it’s all about.
YOGA
F: Reuben!!!! The other day I was on Spotify and I came across this song called ‘Your Devotion’ by Y.O.G.A. I hadn’t heard of it but the artwork caught my attention:
F: Anyway, I listened and I liked it so I started Googling… And realised it’s u! Had more of a Google and saw it stands for You’re Only Great Always. You have an Insta for it too, where you share mental health stories of music industry ppl. I enjoy reading it because it’s really well done. How and why did you start it? Do u have more plans for it?
R: I never started YOGA. YOGA started me. YOGA is a sport to some but to me it’s a way of life. The plan is to live without plans. We are thinking too much already. But I plan on making lots of music and sharing heaps of mental health stories. Lucinda, you’re only great always.
Well god that was a good balance of chicken and wholesome, wasn’t it? A perfectly seasoned chook of a newsletter. The slick pics of the guys were the rosemary sprigs. They were plucked by Giannini McGauran and Daniel Boud.
Thanks for being here.
And remember – the frog lives inside all of us. Life is about finding your top hat and brandishing it as you would a fancy gun. Let it be powerful, imposing, if not a little dangerous.
