UPDATE: Booktopia has gone into voluntary administration, likely as it could not handle our phat asses ordering up the wazoo. Horrible scenes. You can still pre-order the book via Dymocks and QBD, content in the knowledge they will not go under. I’m sorry!
Good evening, freaks and freakettes.
Isn’t that a rather charming illustration? I happened upon it online, only to later find out it’s by a Melbourne artist! Anna Seed. I send her good juju for her thoughtful creation.
I write this as I listen to I’m Good (Blue) - Acoustic by David Guetta ft. Bebe Rexha. It’s a bit demonic to be perfectly honest… this bit yeets me into a new dimension (derogatory):
“I’m good, yeah I’m feeling alright, baby, I’m a have the best freakin’ night of my life”
Not the freakin’. Jeeeeepers. It’s very hard to pull off a freakin without sounding like a PE teacher who is going thru some shit in their personal life and snaps in the mixed sports spare period when you’re FUCKIN about with the squad:
Real.
Tonight though, we leave the watered-down swears at the door because I have a rather auspicious announcement! Are you ready?
I am ready to reveal the cover and title (and pre-order link 😋) of my book!
Lemme just say first n foremost… I started this newsletter four years ago, and many of you have been here ever since – through the Top Hat Tips, the vapevestigation and the goulash. I feel no fear when I press ‘publish’ here, as my letters are met with open arms. It is very beautiful, I mean that, olde english wordsmithery aside.
Ok, are you ready?! Well maybe you already saw on gramstagram. But OMG!
WAT DO U THINK?!!! Audacious enough? Legible enough? SXC ENOUGH?
I really like it, it’s exactly what I envisioned. My personal taste has been realised.
If you’ve been paying attention, you will notice the title is different to the original, ‘Perfect Candidate’. I settled on the title you see above about halfway through writing the first draft, nine months ago.
I was inspired after noticing a theme cropping up in every chapter – all ever wanted was to be hot. Litchrally. So many decisions that I’ve made have been in pursuit of wanting – nay needing – to be hot. My concept of hotness was almost existential – I truly believed that life wasn’t worth living if I wasn’t hot. (Eating disorder hours.)
I explore what ‘hotness’ is in this book, and settle on the fact that it is power. To be hot is to be powerful, popular, treated preferentially. I truthfully always believed that everything I do as a woman is void if I’m not pretty.
I write about plastic surgery (time to spill some tea lol), mother blame, epigenetics, the science of disordered eating, comorbid conditions, Ozempic, the economics of body ‘work’, working in Australian media, ‘froomes weight gain’ and recovery. As you can imagine, if the pursuit of being ‘hot’ really is all I’ve ever wanted, it’s bled into many different compartments worth investigating.
I have poured everything into this book. Everythinggggg miloov. Don’t think I’ve ever been prouder of something, or more willing to back it. Of course I am a lil scared to see how it is received by non-employees, but I’d rather be in the arena getting tomatoes thrown at me than to not be in it at all.
Is your appetite proficiently whet?
Sickening phrase. Don’t worry, there’s no more of that in this book. To ensure you receive one of the first copies hot off the press, I politely invite you to hit that mf pre-order button. Pre-ordering allegedly helps heaps in terms of it getting it stocked far and wide, so you would be doing me a great service! And that also means I can do more book tours I think, and there’s usually free wine at those events so really you’re saving money. Need to cook up a new signature… #famous.

Will there be an ebook version for those of us abroad? 🙏💜
Congratulations Froomsey! Can’t wait to read. Bravo! xx
